Orihuela´s environmental councillor, Miguel Ángel Fernández, has proudly reported that the local government is installing a total of 38 bicycle parks throughout the municipality.

The councillor explained how these facilities are being installed, not only in the city, but in the coastal area and the local villages around the municipality.

In a press conference detailing the project, Miguel Ángel Fernández was accompanied by the director of the Official School of Languages, Sergio García, who thanked the council for the installation of the first bike parks and wanted to state that “it is a clear commitment to the environment, mobility and trust, in which someday we have to expand”.

The bike parking frames are being installed throughout September. On the Orihuela Costa, they will be installed at the Alameda del Mar Civic Centre, Punta Prima Beach, Playa Flamenca Shopping Centre, La Florida Shopping Centre, IES Playa Flamenca, Los Dolses School, Mil Palmeras Beach, Reading Centre, Playa Flamenca Esplanade and Boulevard – Zeniamar promenade.

Some of the local towns will also have bike parks. In La Murada (the school, sports centre, avenida Marqués de Lacy, Church Square and the municipal sports centre door), in La Matanza (Barrio de los Garcías, Health and Pharmacy Centre, Plaza de la Iglesia and Barrio de las 7 casas), in Virgen del Camino (at the door of the school and the Health Centre), in La Campaneta (Social Centre, Medical Office, Pharmacy and school door), and in San Bartolomé (school, sports area and Animal Shelter).

In the city, they will be scattered in convenient places, such as Avda. Principe de Asturias (Language School (that explains why he was there) ​​and the Health Centre Alvarez de la Riva), in Plaza Marqués de Rafal (municipal library), Rincón Hernandiano (Miguel Hernández house), Plaza del Carmen, calle Oriolet, C/Hermandad de la Resurrección (sports tracks), C/Alcalde Vicente Escudero (new Health Centre), avenida Teodomiro (Specialty Centre), Avda. De la Estación and Plaza San Sebastián (Auditorium of “La Lonja”).

On behalf of the Department of the Environment, Miguel Angel Fernandez wanted to emphasise that “little by little, with small gestures like this we continue to adapt our municipality to the use of bicycles and non-polluting means of transport to move,” and took the opportunity to remind everyone that “Shortly we will present the activities of the European Mobility Week, where cycling is also part of these activities”.
